MOVIE SPOILERS MOVIE SPOILES: READ WITH CAUTIONSo this is the big question being asked to me...
"Simplydelightfulx, have you seen the Twilight Movie?!?!!?!"
Answer: Yes
Another big question....
"Simplydelightfulx, did you like the movie!?!?!?!"
Answer:.....
Lemme make a chart.
(I appoligize in advanced if none of this makes sense. I'm writing this at midnight, and I'm really, REALLY tired. But I wanted to get this out before I left for Thanksgiving break.) Likes and Dislikes chart I'll begin by saying this:
The movie was better than I expected. I went in the theatre with terribly low expectations... I wasn't that excited, and I told myself not to get worked up about it- because I knew if it really was that bad, then I wouldn't be too angry about it. I mean, why waste my time being depressed over a movie?
Id also like to briefly summarize my Friday night experience:
My two friends, and my sister and I left home around 5:15 PM on Friday, and went out to eat at PF Changs before the movie. I had reserved tickets on Fandango the night before, because I was almost positive the tickets would be sold out if we tried to get them at the theatre.
(Now, I wasn't really thrilled about going on Friday.., I had a feeling it was going to be crowded, loud, obnoxious and overwhelming with all the annoying die-hard Twilighters there; however, Friday was the only day we could go, because I was going to be really busy Saturday night, and then gone for the rest of the week. )
So anyway, we get to the theatre, and my prediction was correct- there were TONS of people there.
However, many of them were from the previous showing; so excluding them, the line for our 7:50 PM showing was not too bad. The Fandango tickets got us through quickly and we got in line for the theatre. We actually had pretty good seats, I must say. I was really worried that being even 50 minutes early, we wouldnt have that great of seats
but we got really great seats. XD
My friends got some snacks before the movie, and when they came back, we sat and watched as girls (and some guys) between the ages 10-20 (and a couple old ladies... ?) poured into the theatre. They were loud, obnoxious, and had tons of Twilight merchandise on. I kept telling my friends to plug their ears at the beginning of the movie, because I knew people were going to scream and squeal.
So the movie starts.... and to my surprise, the squealing wasn't that obnoxious. There were actually a lot of people "SHHHHSH"ing the crowd. XD I was amused.
Ill start with my dislikes to get those over with:

I was overall pretty disappointed with the editing and cinematography. This is probably a really weird comment, seeing as more people criticize content instead of quality- but these things seriously bothered me. For example- in the scene where Bellas all I know what you are in the forest, the camera went BURSERK. It was like, swirling around them, going in really awkward angles, and doing fast close ups and fade-outs. It was really distracting! I learned in my Film and Literature class that camera movements should be seamless and invisible- the camera movements should not distract you from the story. However, in this movie it did. So that was a little disappointing for me. I also thought the over all tone was a little more dark and brooding than I imagined it to be. (Im king of mad at that class for making me such a critic
But even without that knowledge, I probably still would have picked up on the fact that it was choppy).

The plot moved WAY too fast. I felt like, if I hadnt read the book
I would have had NO flipping idea what was going on. Edwards explanations were a little confusing and too brief... the scenes ended without really getting the point across, and Bella and Edwards relationship was really rushed. I understand there are certain things that need to be sped up, or taken out, in order to get the whole book into a two hour movie- but I thought they could have done a better job at it.

This leads into my next point about Bella and Edwards rushed relationship. Dont get me wrong, I thought Kristen and Rob did a great job together- though, it was probably really confusing to the people who didn't read the books, as to why they liked each other so much. I mean, in the movie
it pretty much boiled down to Bella falling in love with his vampire beauty, and Edwards fascination with her blank mind. (Oh wait! Thats how it is in the book too!

)
but I guess in the book it felt like they had more time to really get to know each other.

I was not impressed with the special effects. When they ran it looked really fake
when they jumped and climbed it looked fake, when the evil vamps made their entrance in the baseball field, you could so tell they were walking on that "magic carpet thing"
. And when Edward sparkled it was a bit awkward. Also- did anyone else notice that on close-ups of Edwards face, you could tell he was wearing contacts? I lold.

I did not like the music score. Most of you know that Im really critical when it comes to movie scores, because Im a musician myself
and the music really contributes to my entire outlook on the movie. And unfortunately, I was totally unimpressed. I thought it was boring and it did not bring about the mood I was hoping for. (There were only a couple spots where I thought the music was appropriate -Ill explain that in the "likes" section)

I did not like Robs voice. I didnt think it was alluring at all. I could tell that he was trying to suppress his accent- and he didnt do that great of a job to be honest. In some sentences, his accent was noticeable in the beginnings or endings. It just made his lines sound really
weird and forced. I think he was trying too hard. (He needs to learn from Hugh Laurie! I never realized he was British until I saw him on the House M.D. DVD extras. XD His American accent is SO spot-on.)

I think Kristen played a really boring Bella. I dont think Bella showed any happiness, or excitement. She was either sad, aloof, ambivalent, or attracted/aroused. It made for a very boring performance. To me, Bella was a little more curious, a little more welcoming
.a little more understanding. But in the movie she was kinda
cold. :\

The meadow scene was very
dark. I expected it to be really bright and happy and warm
but it was really dark and gloomy to me. D:

I didnt like Edwards room. It wasnt at all how I pictured it

The part in the movie that was modeled after the chapter called
Angel, I believe? Yeah, it was pretty anti-climactic. That was one of my favorite chapters in Twilight, and I didnt think it was portrayed very well. It was too dark, and the music didn't give it the mood I was looking for. D: I cried at that chapter
. But in the movie I was just like lol Bellas in pain.

The flashbacks were really unclear, and I think they were kinda unnecessary
.

This isn't really a dislike- but it was something that was unintentionally funny- When Edward was sucking the bad blood out of Bella, did anyone else notice she went cross-eyed for like, a minute? IT WAS SO FUNNY. Also, in the fight scene, when Edward and James growl at each other, it was reallllllly FUNNY.
Now for my list of likes~:

I LOVED the baseball scene. It was probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. The song (Supermassive Black Hole by Muse) fit perfectly! I thought everyone looked good, and the mix of slow motion and fast motion really went well together. Alices pitching was SO cool! And Jaspers little bat flipping tricks were pretty boss. XD
And I lold at Edward and Emmetts collision. XDD

I really liked all of the humans!! Mike and Eric were ADORABLE. Holy cow! I think I liked them better than the vampires actually. XD Jessica was perfect~ And Angela was cute. However, I worried about her extreme thinness. D: She looked like a twig. CHARLIE WAS PERFECT. Holy cow! Billy Burke did a beautiful job with Charlies character. I loved the part where he was loading his gun and Bella came in to introduce him to Edward. XD I lold.

I loved Billy (as in Billy Black) and Jacob. They were both awesome! Although I LOOOVEE Taylor Lautner
his voice sounded a little too urbanized. Im not so sure that makes sense
but I hope he adopts a more husky sounding voice for the next movie.

I loved the scene in the diner when Edward says (the line with the brackets around it is not exact wording, but thats what he was talking about) [I can read what everyone is thinking- for instance that guy is thinking] sex, money, sex, money
cat? LOL.

I liked the Cullens! Especially Esme, Carlisle, Rosalie and Emmett! EMMETT ONLY HAD LIKE, TWO LINES, BUT THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL.

I LOVED THE PART WHERE HE WAVED WITH THE KNIFE. I LOLD. AND WHEN HE WAS LIKE HER NAME /IS/ BELLA! IT WAS FUNNNNYYY. Alright
Im calm. :D Dr. Carlisle did a really, really good job
and surprisingly
so did Esme! ROSALIE WAS AMAZING. Her clear dislike for Bella was very obvious, and she did a nice job at getting her opinions out. Very Rosalie-esque. I was a tad disappointed with Ashley Greenes acting, but she got Alices movements, look, and personality down. Jasper
was just awkward and silent most of the movie. XD But it was a good awkward silent!

I liked the part where they (the Cullens) were cooking food for Bella. That was amusing.

I liked it when Bella was talking to her mom, and Edward pops into her room, and her moms like ARE YOU BEING SAFEEEE? LOL.

I liked the kissing scene. Not gonna lie, that was pretty sexy.

LOOK BELLA, A WORRRMMMMMM I LOLD.

Wooow, compost liquid! DONT DRINK IT! XDDD

I really liked the evil vamps. They were awesome!

Although it was a little rushed
I enjoyed the Port Angeles scene. XD Edwards fast turn-arounds and squealing tires were sweeeet. BD It was also really cute when he got all angry.

The ending fight was better than the previews I saw. XD

I actually like the little scene where Bellas looking at Vampire stuff online, and she imagines that scene where Edward bites her. It was actually kind of cool. XD
So yeah. Thats about it
Sorry for being so critical... I really did enjoy it... but there were quite a few things that bothered me at the same time.
There are other things that bothered me, or that I enjoyed
But Id really be getting into the nitty gritty then. And frankly, Im a little too tired right now to write anymore. I gotta catch a plane at 9 AM tomorrow! I may add some stuff when I return from my trip.
So tell me what you thought! Sorry this is so long
I had a lot to say. I doubt any of you read all of it
but props if you did! Ive been thinking about this for a day or so
so I already had a huge list of things to talk about formed in my head.
Love you all, and hope you enjoyed the movie.

(btw, I'll be gone all this week until next saturday. Have a great Thanksgiving Break, to those of you who celebrat it!)
-Delightful.
